Daejeon Tourism Organization collaborates with medical tourism associations to attract wellness tourists.

On June 1, the Daejeon Tourism Organization entered into a strategic agreement with the Daejeon Medical Tourism Association. This agreement aims to globally promote the distinct medical technologies and infrastructure available in Daejeon for medical and wellness tourism. Additionally, the pact seeks to foster a conducive environment for medical technology forums, and conferences, and to drive medical wellness tourism through collaborations between Daejeon's medical institutions and their international counterparts.

Key figures such as Yoon Sung-guk, the CEO of the Daejeon Tourism Organization, Jang Nam-sik, Chairman of the Daejeon Medical Tourism Association, and heads of the Daejeon Medical Association and Daejeon Seo-gu Medical Association graced the ceremony with their presence.

In the current era, where the global pandemic has escalated interest in health and rest, the medical wellness tourism industry is increasingly seen as a critical catalyst for diversification in the tourism sector, connecting therapy with shopping, accommodations, and travel experiences.

In May, the organization held discussions with the Philippine Molecular Diagnostic Society, led by Dr. Homer Lim, to showcase Daejeon's medical wellness infrastructure and specialized medical technologies. They deliberated over a range of potential collaborations, including imparting seminars and training sessions for Philippine medical professionals, as well as arranging for the transfer of severe and cosmetic surgery patients to Daejeon.

There are ongoing efforts to solidify cooperative ties with several medical societies in the Philippines, including the Molecular Diagnostic Society and the Society of Integrative Medicine, by discussing varied collaboration possibilities and positioning between Daejeon Medical Tourism Association and Medical Association of Daejeon as the host for the 2024 PSOM (Philippine Society of Orthomolecular Medicine).

The CEO of the Daejeon Tourism Organization, Yoon Sung-guk, asserted that the agreement would serve as a major catalyst in invigorating Daejeon's medical wellness tourism by integrating the core capabilities of both institutions. He pledged to make every effort to position Daejeon as a captivating destination for medical wellness tourism by strengthening promotional efforts to attract medical visitors and unearthing novel and diversified business prospects.
