A Healing Space Where Forest and Light Converge - Norubul Red Cross Ecological Park

Within the city of Daejeon lies a rare place where fireflies light up the night and towering metasequoia trees stretch toward the sky — “Norubul Red Cross Ecological Park”.

This space was created through collaboration between the Korean Red Cross and Daejeon Seo-gu District Office to revive disappearing wetlands and ecosystems. “Norubul,” true to its name, represents a special place designed to reclaim memories of fields where roe deer once frolicked and enable fireflies to fly again within the urban environment. Above all, it serves as an urban healing sanctuary where anyone can escape daily routines and fully experience nature's breath, offering a memorable and relaxing experience for all visitors.

The Metasequoia forest trail, a signature attraction of Norubul Red Cross Ecological Park, offers a serene walkway that remains verdant throughout the four seasons. The ecological pond offers encounters with diverse organisms living and breathing alongside water. The children's forest experience center serves as an educational venue where young ones can learn while playing in nature, and summer nights present a sparkling light festival at the firefly habitat. Norubul is particularly renowned as a pristine area where all three firefly species found in Korea appear, making its ecological value exceptionally special.

Recently designated as the “Daejeon Seo-gu Environmental Education Center,” it will operate as a regional environmental education hub for the next three years. Since opening in 2021, it has established itself as a premier environmental education destination through various programs. With this designation as a catalyst, the center plans to develop and operate customized ecological environmental education programs for schools, institutions, and residents, taking another leap forward as a core hub institution responding to climate crisis challenges.

Norubul Red Cross Ecological Park is more than a walking path — it is a wellness destination where visitors can connect with nature and take part in building a sustainable future.

When daily life feels overwhelming, let this place be your quiet pause. Here, among the whispers of the forest and the glow of fireflies, body and mind find renewal.
